James Macdonald founded the business of Macdonald's in 1930, 4 years prior to partnering with Jim Taylor. Together they ran a thriving independent company which was purchased by the Wellcome foundation in 1971. Continuous espansion, developments and high quality standards have earned the company a reputation for excellence and recognition ever since.

Proudly continuing the founding father's principles in growth and innovation, Macdonald and Taylor in 2000 became the first cotton wool producer to gain Organic status from the Soil Association, and in 2001 the company became the first manufacturing organisation in the UK to achieve registration against the international standard for Social Accountability, SA 8000.

Today the business is independently owned and is committed to continuous improvement in terms of the environment an social impact of the Simply Gentle Organic range.
