I am not sure which nappies to choose?

Every baby is unique and it is important that you find the system that is right for you. Most nappies can be mixed and matched so it is not essential to stick to the same brand.

Do Eco-disposable nappies, such as Beaming Baby Bio-degradable Nappies work as well as normal disposable nappies?

Yes. They have the features of popular disposable nappies such as barrier leg cuffs and a resealable fastening system. Beaming Baby Bio-degradable Nappies also have a stretchy & elasticated fastening system. A minimal amount of absorbent gel is tucked well away from the baby to create an ultra powerful absorbent core. This keeps the wetness away from the baby's skin. The absorbent layer in Beaming Baby Bio-degradable Nappies is made primarily from "fluff", this is very finely shredded paper, which has the consistency of cotton wool. Intermingled with the "fluff" are tiny balls of 'gel'. We use a mixture of Bio degradable Gel, made from GM Free Cornstarch and standard Gel - this is very similar to the silica gel you may see in a camera case - designed to keep the camera dry.

Can Eco Disposable Nappies help prevent nappy rash?

Yes. They are far less likely to irritate skin, cause nappy rash or an allergic reaction, as there are no unnecessary deodorants, dyes, lotions, antioxidants or nasty chemicals. Changing a nappy as soon as it is soiled also helps to prevent nappy rash, the main cause of which is the mixture of wee & poo (we don't like to get too scientific here!).

If my baby has eczema can they use eco disposable nappies?

Absolutely. They are gentle enough for babies with eczema and other skin problems, as they do not contain unnecessary chemicals. Most parents see a definite improvement in skin condition when their babies use Eco disposable nappies.

If my baby is experiencing leakage with a washable nappy what should I do?

Check your reusable nappies are pre-washed before first use as this makes them fluffed up and ready for action. Check you have the right size nappy and cover and that the cover is covering all of the nappy and is fitting snuggly around the legs. Add booster liners - some parents add two booster liners or a muslin nappy liner at night times for extra absorbency. Note, leakage will happen from time to time, especially in the newborn phase, even in disposables.

How often will I need to change my baby?

Regardless of whether you use washable nappies or disposable nappies, babies should be changed on a regular basis to avoid nappy rash. Washable nappies do not contain artificial absorbency gels so do not have the same absorbency factor as disposable nappies. Fitted nappies have more built in absorbency than flat nappies. The amount you will need to change will vary from baby to baby. Plan for anywhere between 5-10 changes per day.

Can I use reusable nappies and disposable nappies in a mixed system?

Yes. Many parents do this, if you plan to use a mixture of disposable nappies and washable nappies you will need about 8-10 washable nappies and 2-3 covers.

Will my baby get nappy rash if I use reusable nappies?

A baby with normal skin that is changed regularly with proper sanitized nappies should not suffer nappy rash as a result of using washable nappies. A baby with sensitive skin, prone to nappy rash should avoid materials that don't allow the skin to breathe, and use a cotton nappy and wool cover. Remember nappy rash is commonly caused by internal factors such as teething, diet and fungal infections.
